Saturday, March 25, 2017 – was the kick off of The Cycle – a community arts event put together by Oshawa Arts Association and Rick Kerr. The theme was “Without hope, there is no motivation.”
The Cycle, located at vintage Alger Press Building on 61 Charles Street. 50 artists of all genres and many cultures. Two live performance shows (each different, different artists) from 5 to 6 pm; and from 8 to 9 pm.
Since the jumpstarting of eoii.org. on Monday September 11, 2017, I been spending time everyday relearning how to tweak EOII.org using WordPress to be a great portal of capturing happenings, stories and knowledge about arts and culture movement downtown.
Some improvements into eoii.org worth mentioning are:
-Social media icons on top centre of page, linking to EOII Facebook page, eoii Twitter and personal Instagram account and RSS Feed for Village Vibes.
-Social media share buttons on top right column
-Font enlarger widget in Top right column
-Moon phase widget to bottom right column
-adding hypertext to blog posts
-adding more content to “Resources” page
-enbedding Google Maps into my blog post
I wish I could change the font colour on Menu Titles to a bold yellow or light green. The customization meni in themes doesn’t list that function. I also like to revise the “About EOII” to add EOII’s values, “Earth Love” list of propose projects, and “Knowledge Cafe” with list of proposed learning/teaching topics.
Since moving to Oshawa in November 2010, I been been dreaming and half living in an’Intentional Community‘ in Downtown Oshawa. Its being apart of a variety of grassroots events, happenings and joining community based organizations. I post these moments to the Gallery.
Rick Kerr has arranged an art project for our garden. Our raised beds are getting a makeover! We have Chad Tyson from The Paint Factory and his team coming by to add some fun and colour to our corner on Sunday September 10th.
But before we can have the artists lay down some amazing art for us, we need the raised beds primed. Ken Carruthers has arranged a very generous donation of primer from Dulux Paints, but we need you to help out with the priming! Bring your brushes, rollers and trays and come on down Saturday September 9th at 9 am.
As an added bonus the wonderful Wizards from Brew Wizards Board Game Cafe will be providing coffee to keep us all motivated 😍
Please come join us for this fun and exciting event!
Tues., Sept. 12, 2017 – Today was Youth Engagement Services (YES) kick-off party at the Brain Injuries Association of Durham (BIAD). It was well attended. I had a chance to speak to Mr. Major John Henry. It felt like I surprised him when I walked into the room. I first found out about event when I was at the BIAD for kaaraoke. I later saw a posting maded by AYRFCI Durham. There were presenters from BIAD explaining YES. Being hard of hearing I almost nada. It was a fun night. We had catering from Subway, cake, pop and water and music. I played a game of Crazy Eights and won. YAY! Lol.
Monday September 11, 2017 – Brian C. Rideout helped me to jumpstart www.eoii.org again. I love the idea of posting and tweaking this website to mirror the community experiences that my friends and I are having in Oshawa. I plan on forming this webspace as an arts community hub and knowledge marketplace. I’m excited to EOII back online and sharing community happenings.
As an urban entrepreneur – I look at what is the prevailing problem facing the community and economy and transform it into an opportunity to improve that situation (a problem statement identifies the problem than vision and mission statement will execute solution). Albert Einstein said, “In the middle of difficulties lies opportunities.”
A problem is triggered by external factors in the social (urban decay), economic (unemployment) and political (cronyism) sectors in society. Once you diagnosed the symptom(s) of the problem than you can make smart choices to solve problem by providing the solution (products or services.)
Finally, to manifest your big idea solution you need inputs (factors of productions) to be tools to execution of you big idea problem solving enterprise.
BREAKING DOWN ‘Factors Of Production’
In essence, land, labor, capital and entrepreneurship encompass all of the inputs needed to produce a good or service. Land represents all natural resources, such as timber and gold, used in the production of a good. Labor is all of the work that laborers and workers perform at all levels of an organization, except for the entrepreneur. The entrepreneur is the individual who takes an idea and attempts to make an economic profit from it by combining all other factors of production. The entrepreneur also takes on all of the risks and rewards of the business. The capital is all of the tools and machinery used to produce a good or service.
