6pm – culture meet-up (green room)

6:30pm – welcome ceremony led by rick bourque, traditional knowledge keeper

7pm – introductions
remarks from major john henry and deputy mayor/councilor bob champman
-city update on culture counts: arts, culture, and heritage plan by catherine richards
cultural leadership council(clc) update by derek giberson, chair of clc

7:30pm – bringing history to life: the oshawa museum’s scenes from the cemetary
-presentation by oshawa bmuseum and council rick kerr with live performance by actor glenn rabjohn portraying rev. robert thornton

7:40pm – crown lands
-psych blues-rock duo playing 3 of their hit songs

7:50pm – examining/experience/explore history: the challenge of designing an Escape room based on history of camp x
– presentation by durham college about the mad xscape room

8pm – sindanai (rumination)
– a tamil poem translated to dance by neeraja ramani

8:10pm – mobilizing the museum: changes at the canadian automotive museum
-presentation by the canadian automotive museum

8:20pm – beauty by colour
-a dance curated and performed by maxwell heights secondary school

8:30pm – closing ceremony by rick bourque

2017 culture update

  • 6600 attended peony festival
  • 1900 attended concert in the park
  • 4 new community led events in memorial npark
  • cultural leadership council: 2 professional development workshop, 4 culture meet ups
